More minimalist fun August 3, 2010

I kept hearing snatches of this tune before discovering that it was in the charts.

Here Ronson uses an 80's fat synth syncopated riff (Jupiter 8?) combined with a sophisticated drumbeat to create a minimalist chord progression that is highly infections. The female vocals compliment the flow of the music perfectly, and the up-tempo change for the chorus is a delight.

As an old fogey who reveres 1980s synth anthems I am at a loss to know why this track is not a CD single, perhaps an indicator of the decline of this format as most pop music is now downloaded for instant gratification. However here you are. From my aged ears this is distinctive fare compared to the burlesque bump'n'grind that now graces the top of the charts.

This one is a bit of a grower but that's good. All the songs you love straight away are boring after lots of radio play but this will last out I reckon. If you don't understand the french then watch the video. It has subtitles LOL.

Shame that Mark Ronson feels he has to have 1 rude word in every one of his songs (except the instrumentals, obviously). I saw Mark Ronson and The Business International perform Bang Bang Bang live on the Jonathan Ross TV show, but they looked a little off form. Then I heard the song on the radio and couldn't get it out of my head. It really is pop genius, apart from one rude word.
